All Night Long: A Carnival Guide

Well, Mardi Gras happened over the past two weekends and of course, being the uptowner & New Orleanian I am I just had to celebrate.

So after much boozing, recovering and having fun times with friends, I learned a few things.

So here is an extremely condensed version of how to not screw up Mardi Gras and if you are a guest being asked back again:

1. Always be polite. This is the south darling, think before you speak.

2. Always be on time. Punctuality, especially, when a guest of someone is absolutely necessary.

3. Please for the love of God, don’t dress like a hooker, whore or stripper. Those costumes are for the French Quarter. And for the record, the locals never show their goods and doing so makes you the trashy tourist that everyone will laugh at, not with.

5. When in doubt, bring plastic, paper towels, toilet paper or an umbrella. It rains a lot in New Orleans and those items will make you very well liked, especially if there is food; which considering the location there will be plenty of.

So remember don’t be trashy. Be classy, polite, well-prepared and well dressed and you’ll be a great hostess or guest.
